Default cold start disconnected ?

hi all
as you will see I've posted comments on BLUE SMOKE ON START UP regarding my volvo 1995 940 TDI .
well I've just lifted the bonnet and noticed the cold start device has a bar which fits with a small ball fitting under the accelerator spool well this was hanging loose . when I've been starting car from cold the engine revs are quite low about 700 revs where as before they where over 1000 revs for a short time till engine warms up so I'm just hopping this issue has sooted my problem out
ANY COMENTS MOST WELCOME

Default Cold start device

Just in case you've mislaid your d24 handbook jp have included the relevant pages.
As it says if you are not getting around 1k revs the device is not connected or not adjusted.
For such an innocuous looking thing it appears that adjustment is quite awkward involving dial indicator etc.
L402 certainly produces a fair bit of smoke on a cold start and has always done so.

Default cold start

hi joe thanks for your input.
when cold the engine only gets to 600 revs and bit lumpy I've just had genuine volvo/vw bosch injectors fitted by my local diesel engineers .
the car was getting black soot before this job but thats cured now.
so looks like this cold start device may be failing so it looks like a trip back to diesel boys and hope they can fix it . I've had a good look at cold start device
very old design now. more comments most welcome
