Question B20 oil leak

Just moved my 1800ES out of the garage after winter hibernation and noticed a little oil had dripped into my usually-clean drip tray, the car was last run in September 2013.

Anyway, the sump was wetish with oil around the block joint and there was a droplet hanging onto the sump plug so I've investigated and found that almost every sump bolt was able to be given a slight turn to tighten them again. Hopefully this will cure the leaking, if not a new sump gasket will be needed. Presumably the bolts may have vibrated loose?

Does anyone know if a B20 sump in an ES can be removed with the engine in situ if I need to change the gasket?

Thanks,

Paul

Very, very difficult. Live with and put a tray underneath with some cat litter unless it gets very bad.

Agreed. Don't tighten up the pan bolts too much as this just distorts the gasket and pan and makes the leak worse. Fit a new copper washer when you next change the oil. Note the oil level on the dip stick and keep an eye on it. If you only do relatively low mileage, no long trips, you can keep the level a bit down from full if you like. That would be your choice though.
