Smile V70 Repairing Tailgate Wiring

When the tailgate lock stopped working on my 2007 V70, reading several threads in this forum (most notably this one http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=58099 Thank you so much for that Symes !!!), I managed to uncover the wiring loom where it enters the chassis near the left tailgate hinge.

About half the wires were broken clean through, most of the others were going the same way. This also explains the numberplate lights not working, warning about brake lights (its the one in the middle at the top of the tailgate its complaining about), AND the rear wiper stopping anywhere except at the bottom of the rear screen.

I got all the wires repaired today, and EVERYTHING WORKS now. Took lots of photos along the way, so I will post a how-to guide on this thread very soon. Still need to put all the trim back, will take some more photos there, as getting enough trim off was probably one of the most time consuming (and nerve-wracking) bits of the job.

Apart from changing headlight bulbs (which is also quite a major endeavour given the lack of space in there) this is the most ambitious project I have undertaken on my V. Have to admit to being quite chuffed with myself

Flipping 'eck, I knew this was an issue on 200 estates. Didnt know it was still an issue.
My 850 estate, has not suffered yet.
Hoping my 2004 V70 won't........
