D5 or 2.0l V50 that is the question
Hey guys I'm looking to get a Volvo V50 I did want the D5 model but they are very hard to come by in the brilliant blue colour and even harder to find in manual! I have seen a very nice 2.0l diesel one tho in the blue colour, is it worth waiting for the D5 to come up for sale or will the 2l with a remap be enough, also looking to get some nice big brake set up on it as I'm a bit of a brake whore is there any cheap big brake kits out there that fit them?

Cheers for any help guys!

Depending on your budget also look out for a D3 or better still D4.

D5 is an absolute rocket, huge amount of smiles and overtaking safety PLUS if driven VERY carefully 50+ mpg is achievable.

I chose the D5 over the 2.0d purely because of the way the torque is delivered. The D5 has a much broader range of torque delivery, it revs out and continues to give power, wheras the 2.0d has a very peaky low-down torque curve and I have always found that irritating.

A previous non-Volvo 2.0d I had would hit peak torque at around 70mph in top gear. Because the torque delivery was so narrow if you even fractionally lifted the throttle the car would slow dramatically and I found I was on and off the power all the time. I really fist like it and it didn't have cruise.

IMO the D5 is just a better resolved engine an the downsides barely register for me.
