I went out and purchased a new Shrink-wrapped 440 Haynes manual only to find no reference to diesel engines. Now use it only for body etc reference. Now looking for a cheap used Renault diesel car/van manual.

hi

no haynes don't do a diesel manual. Either pick up a Renault 19 diesel manual or similar that has the F8Q engine.

Or look here http://volvo.ic.cz/volvo440_d19t/volvo440_d19t.html

Fuel filter is quite easy, I find it easier to undo the 2 13mm head bolts to get at the whole unit better. Undo the 11mm head bolt in the centre but hold filter assembly or all diesel will go on the floor and into the clutch. Pull primer away from filter and sediment bowel. Tip fuel into bucket etc. Replace all rubber seals (will come with new filter). Reassemble. Slacken 8mm bleed nipple on fuel outlet banjo. Very important: switch ignition on (there's an additional cut off solnoid before the filter). Pump primer until fuel free of bubbles comes from the nipple, Tighten it up and start engine, feather throttle until engine ticks over on its own. Occasionally necessary to remove plastic engine cover and undo 8mm bleed nipple on pump inlet banjo.

Car takes Fram C1191PL/Crosland 522 or equivalent. My factor was selling Fram ones for 99p last time I got one!

Regards Tom.

hi

you also need to make sure the immobiliser is OFF ie unlock car with fob, otherwise the fuel solenoid isn't opened. Found this out by chance last time we changed filter on my old 440.
