Default 'Time for Regular Service'

My 2004 V70 has recently put this up on the info thingy.
It has 98+ k on the clock.

Last Service stamp (prior to my owning) was by RC Motors of Shrewsbury at 93.274 mileson 16/04/13 and the 'stamp' says 'Full Service' and they marked next one required at 103,500 miles.

So guessing this is really just an oil change jobby? I have a Mann filter ready to go, need to buy some oil.... Is there anything else that should be done, or is it just checks on levels etc?

Having now thought about it, the service prior was at 85,975 by Silver Arrrow Merc specialist and they noted next required 97,975.
So I reckon that when RC motors did there full service, they may not have reset the service light.
So the regular service required is 'from the previous service time'.

May have bought an oil filter for nowt really... Won't harm though and I can reset the computer ....

So what else should be done?

Depends really. I do the brake fluid, fuel filter, air and pollen filter every second year. Then mines a D5. Rear discs come off every four years to replace the shoes. Changed the coolant at nine is spite of it's everlasting nature. Flushed the p/s fluid at ten - should have done it sooner, it was manky. Check pad and disc thicknesses, tie rods and bushes for play.
Wiper condition, leaks and squeaks, replace the oil filler cap seal at 80k, bounce the corners, lubricate everything that moves or is supposed to, adjust handbrake, check wheel screws, tyre pressures incl spare, check aux tensioner pulley bearing, steering limiter condition, battery terminals, alternator output.......... there's no end of things to find.

This message will pop up after 12 months from it last service / reset.
The car looks at time or miles and in your case it's time.

I just clear the message when it appears, with as many miles as mine, I change the oil and filter every 4-5 thousand miles. Coolant, cabin filters and injectors get done annually, and I attend to any issues as soon as I spot them.

I'm a bit anal when it comes to maintenance and find myself repairing or fettling as soon as something crops up. I am of the opinion that if you nip things in the bud early, it prevents costing a fortune later on. Plus, why wouldn't you want your Volvo to be the best that it can be?

Around your mileage, you need to check to see if the cambelt and tensioners have been done. Its due around about now. Its not expensive either, so if you're unsure you might as well get it done with genuine parts.

Also consider taking your car in for the service at your local Volvo dealer; you'll get your software updated and a years free breakdown with Volvo assist! Ive already used mine twice which saved my bacon and provided me with an enterprise rental car for the week whilst Volvo repaired my car! The service was excellent!

Cambelt due at 110k or 10 years so it's due if not already done.

As has been said, the message has come up due to time.

In which case, sooner is better than later when cambelts are concerned!

Thanks, cambelt , I'm told was done in April 2013 with previous keeper who is a mate and ex work colleague
Volvo service, good idea..... Though customer service/care is atrocious over here..... Not just in garages.....
I too do tend to do things as and when I find them
