Cam belt Service coming up - Advice please
I've wanted to have this big service done at a dealer, so that they upgrade all my software, and use genuine parts. Just my 2 closest dealers and have been told it's £850 for the service! Should I just forget the software upgrades and find a good local independent to do it? It's a 57 plate S80 D5 SE Sport.

I will do a small service to get the Volvo benefits and do aux/timing belt using my highly trusted independent ex Volvo guy. Best of both worlds IMO.

I was quoted £1,163.72 by a Volvo dealership for my major service. On the T5 the 108k service is more or less every fluid and every filter along with belts and tensioners.
The same service (minus software upgrades, onward travel solution and a years roadside assistance) was £630 or thereabouts at Deeside Motor Centre. However, if any software upgrades are required they can do them, just not for free. Having said that, software updates don't cost £500+. Deeside Motor Centre aren't the cheapest Indy around but they're good. Very good. They know their Volvos and do a great job. They're only at the other end of the M56 from you so worth a try. Strap your bike to your car, take it in for the service and go for a ride along the banks of the Dee (or you could stick around Connahs Quay for four or five hours but I really wouldn't recommend it - unless of course you enjoy watching people walking round at 9am drinking Special Brew!). Alternatively, get the train into Chester and have half a day there. |

You could always get the Volvo dealer to do everything but the Cam/Aux belt! If you get them done before with genuine parts and have a receipt for the work then they may still offer all the benefits of a full service!

So in the end I happened to buy a battery for my wife's car, the (V70), from Rybrook Volvo in Warrington. When there, at the parts department I noticed they had prices for various parts, such as Cam belt kits, very well discounted. I spoke to Joe, one of the parts team, who was very friendly, and he in turn spoke to the service department on my behalf. To cut a long story short, he was able to supply the parts at a discount, and negotiated a discount on my behalf with the service team. So I got the service done at £635.
I don't think they would mind me promoting them here, as their attitude seems to demonstrate that they would rather have the business, than out price themselves, so if you need this service doing, I'd recommend trying this route. |

Good to know. I'll be getting mine serviced in a few months (not cambelt service though) so will be giving them a call.
