V70 2001 - selling without MOT
I have a V70 petrol 2001 Y plate with 189,000 miles (due to engine management control module issues - £1000 to sort out apparently) which I am looking to move on to a new home (for repair or spares) - preferably a Volvo enthusiast who might be able to make the most of its potential!
If anyone can offer advice on how best to move it on, or make an offer - realistically over £500 - I would appreciate your help. I don't want to resort to scrapping it because it does have a few more years productive life in it but would need someone to deal with the electronics Thanks Chris West Midlands |

You must be having a laugh surely? I've seen well looked after 850/V70/S70 with Mot & Tax go for between £600-800. Who in their right mind is going to pay £500 plus for a car that needs "apparently" 1 grand work.Need to be more realistic if you want to sell the car. |

If you can get £200, that'll be an excellent result or you can break it if you have the time and inclination. That's the only way you'll achieve over £500.
Nobody pays £500 for a piece of metal.

Many years ago (and it must be 20 years!) a motor dealer/mechanic friend told me:-
"Any car is worth £300 with a full MOT, but with no MOT it is worth nothing" Maybe in this day and age you should be able to get at least £150 for it in scrap value. But to expect more than that especially with no MOT and needing £1,000 to fix the electrical issues. To be honest I would want you to pay me to take it away if I was considering it. Some people think what they have is worth a lot more than it is. It is probably worth no more than £1000 (at what they are selling for now rate) with a fresh MOT and running correctly. SC |

Much better to get it repaired cheaply unless it needs lots of other work done. If it does that tells me it has not been looked after very well . |

I still can't see anyone paying £500 for it as it stands.
