Would you (or anybody) be interested in a V50 1.6 DrivE which is Free on tax because it has 99g/km emissions and gets upto 80mpg?
Got one for sale in Black with Bluetooth, electric memory drivers seat, keyless entry...... Very nice clean car which is cheap to run and will hold value. SE D2 spec 115bhp with nice 17" alloys. |

My T5 manual costs £156.75 for 6 months road tax. On a semi rural 40 mile round trip daily commute with speeds varying between 30mph and 50mph through the peak district (lots of hills!) I get 33mpg. And that's even when hooooooning it.
Did a 500 mile round trip last weekend with the wife, cousin, two dogs and a six man tent and associated gear and got: 41mpg cruising at 70mph on the way there, and 37mpg cruising at 80-85mph on the way back. I genuinely don't think there is a massive difference in mpg or running cost between D5 and T5. Don't forget your paying considerable more for diesel than petrol. However, when that T5 (with its 220bhp) blows you away off the line you will wish you bought one instead of the D5..... But hey, that's my opinion!!!

I have an 06 2ltr D. I've had it 3 months and I'm pleased so far. The 2ltr unit had bags of oomph with good economy. We've just done a 1350 mile tour and the fuel return was good. Combined 43mpg and 51mpg on a run. My motor is pre-DPF so not having to worry about an expensive 75k service. The only really big issues with the V50 is the front lower arms in the front suspension, throttle body and clutch on the manual models. Short of that, they're a good motor and you can get some good examples on low miles. There's plenty out there, shop wisely.

I cover about 8500 miles/year in my manual T5, Tax is 285.00/year (just done it) I drive mine very hard using full acceleration and full boost every trip and it averages 25mpg for my enthusiastic 11-mile run to work. I can't drive it without enjoying the power and really wish I didn't have a 3-mile straight of quiet dual carriageway every day. On a fast motorway run 90 to 100mph it'll do about 34mpg. Best I've ever had on flat Lincolnshire roads just cruising below 60mph is 39mpg.
Problems-wise there's the Oil Breather Diaphragm although most would've been sorted by now and then the Suspension which is a horrid mix of Ford Focus- sourced bits and bobs and gives plenty of trouble after 50K miles. New Front Wishbones come first followed by top mounts and broken springs etc.
