Hi
I've got the same car as you. I get about 35mpg commuting in the rushhour driving from Bristol to Bath (13 mile journey in stop / start traffic and hills everywhere). The car warms up ok but you can never get a good run going becuase of the traffic so its comparable to your MPG. I stuck a JTS air filter in when it needed a new one but I haven't got a computer so not sure how much difference it made - can't have hurt tho and it did feel a little 'freer'. Likewise when I take it on the motorway it does about 45mpg tops. I wouldn't worry too much as its down to the engine type - its a diesel but not a great one. Basically, the older Renault diesels in the early V40s are nowhere near as good as the common rail injection versions post 2000 and they are only 90bhp so you have to work them harder to get the cars weight moving. Plus you can't remap them because they have a mechanical diesel pump - I know because I have enquired. They aren't very efficient. I know exactly what the next car will be - a 2002 115bhp 1.9D Sport Lux remapped to about 150bhp ![]() |

Just a quickie, my 98 S40 with the D4192T indirect injection engine used to do around 42 mpg around town, 55 treated easy on a run. I've now got a 99 V40 with the D4192T2 direct injection engine, and I'm getting 43mpg around town, and pushing nearly 60mpg on a run.
And no, I'm not exaggerating! Mike |
