Default Bonnet Latch Broken

My bonnet was/is stuck on the safety catch.
It pops up about an inch (plenty of tension on the release cable), but won’t release from the safety catch at the passenger side.

Just back from Volvo and they inform me it needs a new latch.
Comes in 2 parts totalling £10 for materials.
But the killer is the £70 labour…!!!

Is this a job that can be done at home with basic tools, or is it worth the £70 just avoid the pain???

£70... killer????

Blimey. Seems OK to me. Pay up and move on would be my advice.

Considering it only took them 25 minutes to get into it, assess it and remove the old one. 0.7 of an hour @ £95/hr seems excessive and steep to me.......maybe not to you though...???

Anyone got any experience of fitting a new one themselves?

I don't earn £95 an hour so if someone wants that from me, they better have a damn good reason.
The ability to unscrew a few bolts isn't one so I'd dig out Haynes, have a leisurely couple of hours man time and have a bottle of vintage port afterwards (maybe even during) using the money I saved.

I think that if you own a car doesnt matter model or make
If you just looking how to save money (without any question of private or no hard feeli gs pls. ) than buy a bicycle or walk as even with bycicle we have expenses.
The other problem very common is that we are paying repairing of bad quality parts or lets say worned things in our car. Volvo is master of dissaster with this as i wrote many times plastic fantastic parts made from so bad recycled plastic is braking every week...i can made you list of 20 parts...

If you are technical guy take tool and do it.
Ask someone here to explain procedure photos ect as we made diy
Many times and even i post almost all my bad experience repairing
Xc parts...

Its out of question volvo hourly rate.
Specialist in VCC Torslanda calculated exact time and price for
48000 parts and trust me I serviced my car in many volvo
Services across the Europe Slovenia Italy Serbia Germany Sweden
And even now last week in Cardiff UK to independent volvo
Servise and only here you can arrange the price to be cheaper...
As they will do it good and cheaper than main dealers services.

P.s. dont understand me wrong from begining but i know very well
What are you talking about hourly rate price. Instead im getting
Over 70 gbp hourly but this is my professional money not worth it
To pay to Volvo as the point is bad quality parts last 10 years.
Its pitty that even Volvo take a part of big car mafia part selling
And producing bad parts. How is possible that last ten years
Volvo didnt improve or changed german producer of example:
Fuel hinge door? I changed again and again and ?
They just look how to suck our money. Sweden was well known
For quality but not any more.
No more old good volvo.

I have a simular problem, not completly stuck, but would not open easily and would take a good 5 - 10 minutes playing with the lever. Looking into it, was the pivit bolt for the lever was coming lose. Just turned with my fingers, soon put it to rights (Spannered later). The £70 per hour/part of an hour is what a lot of garages charge. So as little as 10 minutes can get them £70 two or three cars in an hour soons gets there income up.

Not clear if it is still stuck and you are trying to justify £70, or Volvo has fixed it and you are complaining about £70. If the former, how do they/you know that its broken if you/they can't open the bonnet to see it properly? Surely the first thing is to get the bonnet open and have a good look at it. From experience with my XC90, and other cars, it might simply need a clean and some lubrication.

To try and open, try this:

Good luck.
