I'm wondering if the headlights on the XC90 are interchangeable?

As mine has the regular reflector halogens, but reflectors are starting to become gray and scaled, thus limiting the effectiveness and light output, and will need to be changed soon, and I would really like xenons..

what is your MY?

i swapped my 2003 halogens for 2011 bi-xenons

comes up with dipped beam failure on dash as it detects a voltage drop (halogens pull more voltage/current) but you either live with warning light or add a resistor to pull the draw back up.

dead easy to swap out but pricey

HID (xenon) cars must have self levelling and wash/wipe or will fail MOT test.

Actualy the MOT Testers manual says :

"Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge
(HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted
with headlamp washers and a suspension or
headlamp self levelling system.
Where such systems are fitted, they must work;
however, it is accepted that it may not be possible
to readily determine the functioning of self levelling
systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt
must be given."

Those are the words the tester goes by so it shouldnt fail for not having washers or self leveling ...

As all 7 seat xc90's have self levelling suspension then as long as they have the winter pack they would be covered.

what they mean is self leveling Headlamps rather than self leveling suspension . The actual light units have motors to raise or lower them depending on the position of the suspension measured by sensors on wishbones . very fast acting when you go over a speed bump for example , something self leveling suspension can't do .

This is taken from the dft

Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and selflevelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam
