Default Diesel Fuel Filler Cap?

Hi, bit of an odd question maybe but can't find any pics on google images or searches!

If I open my fuel filler cap (V50 2.0l D 2008) and look at the inner bit (that faces into the fuel filler neck), there is a small round piece approx 10p sized that fits into the centre and is slightly raised away from the rest of the fuel cap body.

The flat face of this round bit is set at a bit of an angle to the rest of the fuel cap, not square to it as it were!

Is this normal?

Odd question I know but can't find out any info and not seen any other volvos at the petrol station to ask them for a look!

Many thanks,
rgds Stu

Although I haven't tried it yet, despite two fill ups already, I wonder whether the disc is supposed to slip over the tab on the fuel filler flap to stop the cap touching the bodywork.

It says in the manual to hang the cap on the flap, but I ain't figured out how yet.

Best I've come up with to stop it dangling against cars paintwork is this, not ideal but it works...

Incidently, the very centre of my fuel cap says FoMoCo (ford motor company), matches my rear silencer which also appears to be ford

Default Fuel filler cap

I always rest my filler cap on the tab the sticks out from the bottom of the flap, shown on your photograph. I undo the filler with finger and thumb and then fit it to the tab, dead easy.
