Default 2004 v40 wheel and tyre options

I have a 2004 V40 SE 1.9TD that is fitted with 17" alloys and 205/50R16 tyres.

The problem is this wheel size / tyre combination give a harsh ride and on roads with a less than smooth surface you feel all the bumps.

What alternative alloy and tyre sizes do I have that would give a smoother ride but still be within the 'official' specification for insurance, MOT etc?

Any advice much appreciated!

Tim

Cool

Page 110 of the owners handbook gives a table of sensible tyre options.
