D2 V40 SE Lux versus D4 SE
Forum members
I currently drive a V60 SE LUX Drive which really find really comfortable, but with the car nearly 3 years old I am looking to get a V40 as I do not really need the size any longer. I have tried a V40 D4 R-Design, loved the engine but ride too hard. The D2, is the same engine as I have (although I believe MY16 cars have a 2L, 122 BHP version). It drives fine, but lacks the driver experience. The car I would like is a D4 SE LUX but Volvo do not make that version and I will not fork out for the NAV version. So the option is 1) V40 D4 SE. A fun drive (but will miss the Leather seats. Not sure if leather faced would be worth it. 2) V40 SE Lux. Have the toys, economy but possibly a lessor experience I was wondering if members have had the same dilemma, and from their experience what convinced them of their choice |

Faced with the choice you have I would opt for more power rather than leather seats, and it seems you feel that way as well?
Regards not being able to get an SE LUX on its own, and the fact that it comes only as SE LUX NAV, what I tend to do is work out what I am prepared to spend and fit the car around that price bracket, bearing in mind the discounts that are available, you should be able to get the spot on spec for your budget. The basic differences between SE and SE LUX are leather and bi xenons and we have a car with both and a car with neither, and tbh it doesn't really bother me that much, that we have them and that we don't have them, if that makes sense. We would have liked the auto cruise control but at £2k felt it not worth it, despite it being great. At the end of the day, our choices boiled down to value for money, having due regard to things we wanted, and we fitted the cars into that. The standard D4 R-Design has the same dynamic chassis as the D4 SE, so if you found the D4 RDesign firm chances are you will find the D4 SE equally firm.
The D2 has the comfort chassis in all models apart from RDesign where it come standard with sports suspension which is why the sports suspension is not an option on a D2 only the models above it. |

Thanks for the replies.
I think the SE will be fine. although I was not aware of the chassis differences. I am going to see if I can source a D4 SE to test. I like the comfort driving up and down the country, but motoring (even in these days of excessive traffic) is also about enjoyment. |
