Just in case anybody is interested, I've a 97 Phase 1 that came with one key and 2 fobs. My local Volvo specialist (Browns Autocare - 01246 453303) in Chesterfield just supplied and "fitted" for me a new fully working key today - for £70 plus vat. Good value compared to the 2 Volvo main dealers in Chesterfield and Sheffield who both wanted something approaching £200.

Like big lad I got no fob with my V40 does that mean my alarm/security system have been disabled?

Yes , the alarm can only be turned on and off with the Fob when locking/unlocking , you can use a second hand fob up to 1998 models ( Black front grille badge ) 1999 and later ( Blue front grille badge ) require software .

yes basicly , there is a hand held volvo tool to program the fobs for pre 1999 cars and it should take no longer than 5 minutes to do , so hope they charge appropriatley .
