This is interesting.
My V50 has a lot of 'road noise' and is even louder than the boss' A4 Avant, which is the 'Black' edition with the stupid '30 profile' tyres. I have begun to suspect the 'road noise' is the bearings. Is there any easy check for these, as its the long weekend?

Unfortunately the short answer is no. The wheel bearings show no physical signs of wear - i.e. movement when being inspected.
The only way is to bite the bullet and replace them. It may work it may not, but if they are even a little dry (like mine were) or only just beginning to wear it can make a drastic reduction on the "feel" of the car...
