Default Frightened myself today!

Well.
My ATF arrived last week. After reading all of the doom and gloom and warnings about using the right ATF, I checked and checked again, even though it had JW3309 in big writing on the front!

I dropped what would come out (wasn't going to do a full flush), then measured it, so I knew how much to put back in. (3.25L)

I then re-filled, started her up and left running for a few minutes, then, with my foot on the brake, ran it through the gears. It felt smoother, but I hadn't moved yet.

So, I stuck it in D and took my foot off the brake. Nothing!! It didn't move an inch. Now, this is a car that used to fight the brake unless I held it down hard. So, why didn't it move? I thought there was no drive!

Nope! I'd left the chock in front of the wheels ( I always chock the car when I'm working on it).
Doh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gear changes now are super smooth. Definitely notice the difference.

Know that feeling all too well,

I had a similar scenario way back in the late 90's,

Fitted a brand new auto box to a Rover 827, the Honda powered one i think,

anyway, quite a doddle i thought, no subframe nonsense to contend with,
and quite a light box (for an auto), got it all in and bolted up, shafts in, wheels on, etc. (all done on the floor BTW, and only a trolley jack for a bit of help!)

Once i filled it with oil i fired her up, then proceeded through gears as you do when there was a grinding noise and absolutely no drive, Sheizen!!

Two minutes later i diagnosed a shaft issue, the snap ring in one of the cv joints was weak and i must have dislodged it when re-assembling the shaft into the hub, i felt a bit relieved after half an hour taking cv out and popping the shaft back in and gingerly bolting it all up again, and it drove perfectly as you would expect being a brand new box....

That's why I left the engine idling for a couple of minutes before trying to drive off. (I'd already heard about that one).
Nope, it was definitely the chock.
Drive is sweet as a nut now. Gear change is hardly perceptable unless I put my foot down.
