Cool, thanks guys.

The pump seems dead, I picked up an aftermarket replacment that was reduced from 100 to 60.

Issue I am having now is actually removing the assembly from the tank! I can get it maybe half way and its getting stuck. I've tried wiggling, rotating, lifting up/pulling down, manually sliding the sender up and down on its springs. I found a pretty useful link https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Fue...eplacement.htm
and despite reading through it, she still seems stuck.

Any thoughts on dropping the tank? I'm thinking this would possibly make it easier to pull the assembly out?

Update -

got the unit out, went to fit the replacement pump and it doesnt fit! The aftermarket pump I purchased did not come supplied with the 'sleeve' it fits in. New part should be with them in a couple of days

Default Bosch

Replaced my own fuel pump last week. My Bosch replacement had a black plastic covering I needed to saw off first. Thereaftr I needed to re-use the original filter and it fitted nicely into the white plastic sleeve the original sat in.

Getting it out is easier than getting it back in. You need strong enough string to compress it, then get it the right location on the bottom of the tank, there is wall that you need to negotiate. Then you need make sure the seal goes in correctly and the big threaded plastic nut thing.

Take it slow and persevere.

Im having a look around for a replacement, Euro Car Parts dont seem to be able to help.

I have found a couple on ebay, they seem to be around 30 quid and claim that they will fit - but they seem to look different...

Even this Bosch one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fuel-Pump-...item19f4c479fe appears to be different to what I have. No idea what to do!

Its tricky to get the right pump, Bosch may have rationalised the range. You need to navigate through the part number replacement, which I have not managed to complete, but I have just used a 2nd hand pump assembly from my spares car so need a longer term replacement.

The part you highlight looks about right and is listed as an equivalent, but the sources are not totally robust. You may find some minor modnifcation is needed. Unless you can find anything better I'd go for that, the original is not comming up as available on Google.

Mine (1995 B230FT) was Bosch 0 580 453 037, many sources showing 453 033 and the 314 067 as alternatives. Bosch application datasheets (which point out the rationalisation well for the external pumps) I have seen so far assume all 940s use the external pump (possibly US based so doesn't help our later models).
