Default XC90 Remote Key fob problems

Hi all,
We have a 2004 XC90 and we had a bit of an incident a couple of weeks ago..

The remote key fob by accident was dropped into a puddle. It was quickly recovered and was stripped and dried, but is now completely dead.. The battery is fine, the contacts are all fine, but nothing works..

Is there any way to recover this, or even check if it is working..

At the minute, we have several unknowns..
1. The key actually does not work at all (i.e. completely dead), or
2. the key maybe is working but needs re-programming to the car..

If someone could throw some light onto the situation, I would really appreciate it.

When you say "its not working" do you mean it will not unlock the doors remotely, it will not start the car or both ?

Hi Shadeyman,

The electronics of the key is non-functioning, i.e. just like there is no battery.. The car is still starting on it etc, so the key is good and the chip is still recognised by the immobiliser..

So, just the electronics.. Battery is good and the key was stripped almost immediately after the incident and dried out in the airing cupboard for a few days, then re-assembled and tested.. Dead.. No locking, unlocking, or functioning of any of the buttons..

May sound obvious, but is the battery in the key the correct way round? .... easily done!

Hope it helps

Hi TruckbusUK,
Thanks for the tip and it made me think if I had the battery in the correct way. I had a look at the functioning key and the non-functioning key and the polarities are the same..

Unfortunately, back to the drawing board..
