Default C30 AirCon fault

Hello. So I had owned my 2010 Volvo C30 1.6 Drive for around 8 months and had no issues.

About a month ago after a long run the AirCon went from frosty every time I used it to almost like it didn't work. This happened overnight and there is no faults showing. The stop start has also stopped stopping and starting at the same time, but again no real idea why.

I took it to a friend who said that when he pressed the aircon button the flywheel from the motor for the compressor wasn't spinning. He suspect maybe that the volvo detects that there is a leak and so doesn't run the compressor (I don't know if this is what happens)

Just wondering if there is something else I can check (already checked fuses in the bonnet and under the glove compartment.) or am I going to have to take it to a garage and have it looked at properly.

Also if there is a leak will this stop the stop start from working?

Cheers

if the pressure in system has dropped ..the pressure switch wont activate the compressor ......take car to air con engineer(contact garages to see who they use or yellow pages) and have correct diagnosis done and price for economical repair

Remove the small wire from the compressor and voltage test it with the engine running and aircon on the lowest setting. This plug is easy to access on mine but I don't know about space on yours.
If you get no voltage, then the system isn't functioning at all and could be low on gas.
If you get the battery voltage, the ac clutch not engaging is likely down to too large a gap.

Thanks so much. My friend seems right that it probably is a leak and needs fixing and regassing as he was sure there would be a sensor to stop it working if it leaked. Thanks for confirming.

I will take it to a garage and get them to have a look.

I will report back as and when, but it does seem like the obvious answer.

Most likely cause is a hole in the condenser, thats what mine was and i had the same symptoms as you've listed.

Good luck.

It's a common issue with the 50's and 30's, the condenser is a weak point.

Mine was the condenser, ended up costing around £600 at Volvo.
