Hi I have a 2002 v70 d would not start a few weeks ago checked fuel supply ect , it turns over fine but does not fire. Then it started a week later while I was trying to get some live data. It has been fine all week until Saturday when it wouldn't start again.I cannot find the immobiliser box to check plug. I have been looking for a second hand antenna ring. There are quite a few from 2002 with a different part number, does it have to match exactly or are they interchangeable

That you are looking for antenna rings tends to suggest you've got a dashboard message like 'start prevented immobiliser' or similar?
If the car has been damp inside at any time in the past it might be worth removing all the fuses and relays (one at a time so not to get confused) and check the legs of each for corrosion. Worked for my Sons Leon that wouldn't start one evening with no symptoms other than no 'firing' , the RAC correctly diagnosed no power getting to the ECU but only checked fuses for continuity, turned out one of the fuse legs was corroded...

Finally got to the fault. I took the leak off pipes off the injectors and cranked the engine, one two and three were dry no diesel, four and five had a weep of diesel like a syringe being slowly pushed, I think one of then had been like that a while when another one went they added up enough to lose rail pressure. It has been a bit slow to start first thing in the morning three to four second of cranking to start now it's instant.

Very common on the 2002.
I only had one faulty luckily so a £50 fix with an eBay replacement.

The generally accepted limit for leak back is 40cc per minute at idle.Non starters are generally much worse than that. Some sources put an additional restriction of no more than 35% difference between the worst and the best.
That year 02 was known for injector trouble. There should be a class number on the injector. 1,2 or 3. They would have been fitted as all the same class originally but you can replace with up to two of an adjacent class. For example two 2s could be added to a set of 1s or 3s, but it would be stretching it to fit 1s to a set of 3s. |
