Default Intermittent idle issue

Hi, I have a 1997 volvo v40 2.0 Petrol and recently it has been hesitating to rev when idling. The issue only occurs once the car has heated up and doesnt always happen.
the sympton is, when stopping at lights (etc.) the revs sit at 600-700rpm and wil feel like they are dipping (not continuously, maybe once or twice every 10 seconds), then on taking off they will hesitate and dip. Once it reaches 1500rpm, it appears fine and probaly wont occur again for another couple of days.

Local mechanic has recently replaced O2 sensor, both coil packs and thouroughly cleaned the throttle body.

No error or warning lights appear, unable to get a live reading of the ecu while driving.

Mechanic advised it could be the carbon clean that has affected the idle and the car may take 2000km to relearn the correct level. However the issue started just before i took the car in and had the coilpacks replaced.

Any ideas/suggestions are welcomed.

Have you cleaned the ICV (Idle Control Valve) ?

You could also try disconnecting the battery for half an hour and reset the ECU. No need to wait for 2000 miles. Just make sure you have your radio code as you will need it when reconnecting the battery.

Thanks Gatos, I will give this a go at the weekend. I dont know if this is relevent but I notice it has been idling fine for the last week (dead on 700rpm and not moving), that is untill we had a 30 degree day and the vehicle was parked out in the Australian sun all day. Then it began hesitating on take off and dipping the revs on idle. Again once it reaches aroung 1500 rpm, no problem.

What components may be affected by the ambient temperature in this way? Could it be the cat convertor?

Anyway thanks again, I will give the ICV clean a go.

Are you by any chance using an induction kit?

Default May I pick your Volvo Brain?!!

May I please pick your Volvo brain?! Have code 101. Have replaced spark plugs, fuel filter, mass air flow sensor, catalytic converter and one oxygen sensor, cleaned IAC and throttle body. Car occasionally stalls at idle. When it stalls check engine light is activated and current code is 101. It runs fine at highway speed. I've taken it to a specialist who is suggesting timing belt change and cam seals as belt is covered in oil. Could this really cause my driveability concern? Thank you in advance for your consideration. Monica Horner, Oxford, N.C., USA
