My year 2000 volvo s80 2.4 came up with a engine overheating warning sio i pulled into next garage turned engine off and lifted bonnet all seemed ok engine only warm as id only done about 5 miles, i did top up water, waited 10 mins then continued my journey 30 miles with no more warnings, my jorney back home was about 40 miles with no more warnings ? Why would i have got the initial warning ?

why ? dunno.
Could be faulty sensor, bad connection in wiring, bad earth, anything like that.
Thermostat sticking perhaps ? Pop a new one in for peace of mind
Whatever the fault is it might have to get worse before you can identify it
