Default DPF cleaner

Has anybody used this, I have friends who swear by it to clean the DPF of their cars what they use for mainly short journeys. My mates daughters BMW 1 series was running rough and she was told because she did short journeys and her DPF was clogged up and it would need cleaning out but catoclean was recommended to be added to fuel and it solved the problem.

I've been using the stuff in petrols and diesels for years. When doing emissions it really lowers them on the petrol one yes it seems to help with dpfs that are struggling.

Not sure about the product but in general in tank/oil additives are more of a myth when it comes to really work.

Here's a video about truck DPF cleaning, doesn't look like an additive could clean this much.

The only way to clean a dpf is with heat and gas flow! Some 600 degrees!

This is just based on stuff that goes on in my little mind and not fact. I am guessing that this type of additive somehow or other alters the capability of the fuel to get high enough to reach soot combustion temperatures.

As above, the only way to clean a dpf is with heat and gas flow.

I don't see how additives can alter gas flow, but I do see that heat can be altered. I also don't see that they dramatically alter the amount of soot being produced in a way that suddenly cleans the dpf - not possible! Nor can they add some kind of gas to the exhaust fumes to clean the dpf.

However, if the additive allows the burn off to be hotter in the dpf during a regen process (elavated temp - glow plugs - together with diesel being injected to exhaust gases prior to entering the dpf), then I can see that it will most certainly improve that regen process.

I see absolutely no reason to add this unless there is a dpf problem though such as if your light is on - 'Soot Filter Full" in Volvo terminology. It's not going to keep your soot filter clean. If an additive exists that reduces the amount of ash being produced in diesel combustion, then that's another thing.

I expect EGR valve cleaning additives will be similar; some way of elevating the temperature to soften the gum arund the egr. However, I would say that such an attempt to sort out EGR problems is putting off the foul job of taking bits apart and spooning out the horribleness.
