Default 2007 S80 D5 ABS Issues

Normally lurking over on the V40 forums, but a friend of mine has an issue with his S80, not aware of the codes on the car but they have been read apparently and a new ABS module was suggested.

He got a unit (although I am not sure of the source, trying to find this out) and when fitted, the car would not start so he had to refit the old unit. Have spoken to my brother who spoke to a tech at his dealership and they believe the BCM module forms part of the immboliser system and possibly if the unit has been fitted to another car before it would not start.

I am trying to find out more info on his replacement pump source, but I'd thought I'd ask the following in advance:

A: Can you fit a second hand pump (and module) from another vehicle?
B: If the above is possible, I assume a BCM reload will need to be performed?
C: Can his existing unit be fixed or refurbished?

Many thanks in advance for the help, its a lovely D5 he's got and trying my best to help him minimise the cost of fixing!

A recent forum poster also had a similar issue, they went down the route of getting a company to repair his existing unit. I don't believe you can reload the units once they have been programmed to a car or at least a dealer won't do it and wants to sell you a new one.

yes repair is the best way here . used units from other cars with different serial numbers can cause big problems for dealers if programming new software is tried ,( it is forbidden ) they can be financially out of pocket as volvo will wipe their hands of it if the car "dies" .
