Interesting and Volvo appear to claim the parts are good as new, so a good option.

That is a list for Volvo service department informing them as to what can be reconditioned and NOT a list to the customer...

We have one of the transmission remanufacturers factories Volvo mentions in the pdf quite near us. Anyone can go there either, yourself or your indi or dealer.

EU legislation requires a large percentage of car parts to be recycled now. I've seen Volvo photos of the recycled parts, shelves and shelves of them.

Obviously you have to ask somebody who knows the parts system to be able to find out what is available. I never had an issue finding out there was an exchange cylinder head option.

The pdf was from a Volvo customer web site.

Why would the leaflet say "ask your Volvo retailer for details" if it was only for the dealer. Bizarre.

Well end of the day they will be offered to the customer or will end up on their car anyway, so it is a bit academic. They wouldn't make them for fun. Essentially, as I understand it, they have to build them as good as new - so mostly everything gets replaced. That is the difference between rebuilt and remanufactured parts.

Your missing the point..

Volvo do not openly inform their costumers that reconditioned parts are being installed into the costumers car..

Nor are the reconditioned parts of an good standard..

I can agree with the first part - that they probably don't make it clear a lot of the time. As for the second, what are you basing that on? These are remanufactured parts NOT rebuilt and legally a remanufactured part has to be a much higher standard than rebuilt. Volvo are hardly going to emphasize the quality of the parts - as per Roy's attachment - then hand you some rebuilt junk. They would have a VW scandal on their hands.

From the sheet: 'What is an exchange part? In Volvo's case it refers to a part that for all practicable purposes has been remanufactured to the standard of a new Volvo part'.

For someone who has had his a55 handed to him with expansive repair bill, which in my opinion should be covered by a recall system, you are sure trying to convince yourself that Volvo are an honest bunch...

I would recommend you visit T5D5.com and ask the question regarding reconditioned parts..I'm sure you will be quite surprised as to how dishonest Volvo can be..

I shall check it out. I will also be speaking to my main dealer and asking a few questions about my parts .

I would probably recommend t5d5.org as .com seems to be something a bit dodgier!

So do you have a particular example of a remanufactured part that turned out to be junk?

LOL T5D5.com looks to be a more interesting site then T5D5.org..

I will let you do the searching. But for a taster look at BarnsleyBills engine build where his "new" oil pump cost him his newly built engine..

From my own experience both statements are not true. I was told the parts available and the prices. I had no issues with the remanufactured part over the eight years I used it for. Used to pull like a train as well. It used to cruise happily at 100mph with a top speed of 120 mph.

When and how were you misled? And by who?
