I had a suspicion that my 940 leaked at the lower corner of the windscreen. Might be worth a quick look.

I've just had a very similar episode on my 1991 940.

# I had left the blower motor on the highest setting -5 - and started the car whilst not actually sitting in it. After a short while (no pun intended.......) I noticed the interior filling with smoke and no blower motor running!

# I expected the worse, but after a good examination I found no burnt wires and no blown fuses. Just the motor jammed. So after lubrication with oil/WD40 I replaced it all and amazingly it worked fine - and still does.

# I've been told that the smell would be from the overheating windings on the armature (which may have done some damage to the insulation of course) but that since this would not draw extra current the fuse would not necessarily blow.

# Main problem has been getting rid of the smell of burning! Otherwise all appears to be well.

It is and mine is very stiff too. My difference and concern is that the intermittent wipe kicked itself off when I noticed the small puff of smoke which I suppose could have come from the blower.
I degreased the motor yesterday and I'll see if it will oil up but at least I'm not the only one with this, thanks all

As a matter of interest, did you manage to oil the front bearing too?

Well, big apologies, when I re-read my last 2 posts, they don't exactly read very well at all...sorry. My heater motor is still stiff even after oiling, I suspect its no good.

However, being dry, I managed to remove the scuttle........hmmm....I don't think drainage from the scuttle is an issue....I assume that the gap on the inside of the wing is how it drains? Well, it was big enough to swallow my 2 wiper fixing bolts!!! Anyone know whether there is any way of retrieving them without having to remove the wing??

Oh dam, 1 step forward, 2 steps back
