Gearbox M56L2 - 9482300 S60 D5 2004
Hi Guys, The Core plug has gone in my S60D5, not unusual I know. The reverse gear has been slipping out, so I am guessing now would be a suitable time to address this. Has anyone had a box repaired or is it a case of take a chance on a second hand one which may also have its own issues?
Cheers |

Bad luck with the core plug,
I'd be checking the gear linkage cables, or particularly their bushed ends for wear, i'm not aware of the boxes wearing unduly. I don't believe these bushes are available seperately so if they are worn you need new cables more than likely. Your taking the box out anyway so i'd sooner spend some money on a new CSC at the very least, these can fail prematurely also. They are hydraulic and share the fluid with the brakes, irregular fluid changes can hasten their demise. I'd be checking DMF and clutch for wear also. Cheers 4candles. I am going to do the clutch and the CSC, didnt really want to do the Dual Mass, unless when I get the clutch out its looking a bit worse for wear. I head that the Dual Mass on these are quite robust?

... then i'd check the operation of the box simply by disconnecting the cables at the box end, have an assistant engage reverse manually at the box and see if it still jumps out, i imagine within the gearbox there is a detent spring that keeps the gear engaged because there is usually no synchro on reverse. |
