280K km works out at 170miles ish, my thread "How many miles is too much" the response from that seemed to suggest as long as its been lokoed after hile miles isnt somthing to worry about

It depends, see the other thread as mentioned, you will find some useful infomation within it.

If the car feels loose or worn then walk away. But if the car feels good and tight then look further. If its got receipts/SH then go through those to see whats been done. Also check for evidence of regular oil changes and ask what grade oil the owner is currently using. You need evidence that the cambelt has been done (that will be about due right now), check the other belts/hoses are in decent condition, check for oil & coolant leaks and be curious if the engine bay has been steam cleaned (sellers, including traders usually do this to hide oil leaks which they can't clean by hand).

Steering and suspension components will be worn if they have not been replaced. Ignition components such as distributor/coils/HT leads would benefit from replacement and if the car feels a bit flat performance wise, chances are the MAF will be on its way out. (unplug the MAF and see if the engien revs up significantly better, if it does, you need a new MAF).
