I never knew that about the Volvo shoes. My non-Volvo replacements seem to sometimes work and sometimes not, as in the 'pull' required doesn't stay constant. It's irritating.
Time to buy the badge.

If anyone wants to do this properly, genuine shoes are £27.

£27 for guaranteed fit and function over many years compared with what saving for aftermarket?

I'm amazed this is even debated.

Hi. Sorry couldn't reply to your pm. When ordering I put my reg in eurocarparts website and got the wrong ones would guess the garage gave reg to their supplier and got the wrong ones. Got round problem by welding two pieces of metal on to make slot narrower. Would guess best option would be main dealer but not sure of cost. Had exactly the same as you handbrake was good going back nothing going forward due to the cam action of mechanism.

Thought I'd update people.

The problem was cured by using Volvo parts. Being the person I am, and because I could, I took the time to compare the Bosch shoes that came out with the Ferodo shoes that didn't work with the Volvo shoes that do.

Firstly, and apologies to Clan, but Volvo shoes are not thicker in the centre. They, and the Bosch, are however thicker on their leading edges - by about .75mm. Of much more importance it turns out, is the steel framework. Both the Bosch and Volvo ones are 1mm or so taller when sat on the adjuster. So, adding those two together, plus the additional thickness, means 2mm plus at the leading edge.

So, in this instance, mm really do matter! I have not taken this up with Ferodo but I have to say I'm deeply disappointed that such a company can sell product literally unfit for purpose. P2 V70 owners, you have been warned!

In the end I also got my shoes from a main dealer for £30 rather than the £40 they quoted me. I just told tem I was offered them at £30 so they could have my business if they matched it. Hey if you don't have a bit of front you never get anywhere!

I now have a handbrake that locks the rear wheels but I shall not be using it for handbrake turns any time soon!

HTH someone.

Well done Yorkshire Dave !Volvo parts are better sometimes and not more expensive either .So far I am convinced on p2 handbrake shoes ,water pumps and cam belt and auxiliary kits and Volvo spark plugs and there may be others that are worth it .Maybe room for a sticky about what parts must be volvo to save Clan tearing his hair out .Don,t be upset ,I for one have learnt a lot from his and Cheshire D5 's posts in particular .
