Default B18 Oil pump.

Hi Everyone!

Recently while starting the Amazon I am sure I have noticed the oil light staying on longer, up to a few seconds. So it looks like the oil pump may be on its way out, has anyone had any experience with them before? Are they a repairable or replaceable item?

Many thanks, Tom

hi tom there are some adjustments that can be made to pressure.You'll find wear tolerances in the manuals. It is of course an engine out job in any case so if you are convinced that's the problem then a new pump would be the way to go. I bought one from brook house recently and think I paid about £80. In doing that, I'd be checking the bearing shells at the same time. You may also want to check your oil pressure switch before going to all that trouble and the expense.

Tom;

If anti-drainback valve in filter is not sealing (or you have an unknown brand of filter with unknown internals installed, I'd replace the Oil filter with a quality MANN filter (with a new, and functioning anti-drainback valve) and possibly even increase the viscosity, before suspecting Oilpump which is highly understressed.

Cheers

Thanks for the info guys. I will start with the oil filter, I know brookhouse do genuine volvo ones so will buy and fit one of those first then head towards the oil pressure switch and then if it comes to it the pump. The current filter I am unsure of exactly where it came from and has only been fitted for about a month so hopefully its that! Thanks again!
