Default Towbar saga goes on

In trying to save £735, I decided to take the removable Volvo towbar off my 2012 V70 to get it refitted to my 2016 V70.
The main dealer would not do this, but an independent fitted it fine but did not do the electrics.
Main dealer said the Towbar module could not be recoded to a different vehicle (although it was already second hand when I bought I). Car was booked into dealer today for a new module to be supplied and installed. They could not do the job as apparently the Towbar wiring loom I have is different to the one required for the new module.
I know my old module plugs in perfectly can anyone assist in whether it can just be reprogrammed?

yes the electrics changed recently ( caravan LED compatibility) so you will need the whole kit , not that expensive . Software for a 2016 will not go into a 2012

I think it was a May 2015 upgrade.
I'm about to find out as I have done the same thing, but with a Jan. 2015 model.

Can't get it fitted, no one will touch a second hand tow bar because of "health and safety"!

Bit late to this post, but here's my recent experience.
  • Owned a 2012 V70 with a Towbar and dedicated 13-Pin electrics,
  • Removed as I was getting a 2016 XC60,
  • Bought off Ebay a 2010 XC60 Towbar with dedicated electrics (£60),
  • Fitted new Towbar to XC60 and installed wiring,
  • No shock, but the lights didn't work 100%,
  • Tried the 2012 V70 module, nothing at all,
  • Called "Right Connections" who make the modules for Volvo,
  • They sold me the module for my car (no wiring change) for £44+VAT,
  • Job done, all
working.

So, on the XC60, XC70 and V70 the wiring is all the same, it's just a module change.

Always worth a call to RC to check what changes between models.
