Ive just purchased this car, and it has developed a small water leak from the water pump around the locating pin area, i have removed the pump fitted new gasket and the dreaded red gunk but it still leaks, has anyone experienced this and has a fix for it.

Hello,

The pumps are actually designed to leak a little as a warning that the gasket/seals are on the way out.

Did you just change the gasket, or the seals as well?

If you didn't do the seals, it's odds on that's the problem.

If you DID change the seals, then take the pump off, take the seals out, and flat off the face surface of the pump with a fine file, ditto block surface. (sometimes you get minor distortion = leaks).
If there are any signs of calcification (hard white deposit) inside any part of the pump clean it out; you may need to get a drill on it. Clean it all off, ensure the seals are properly seated. Make certain there is a good dollop of sealer all over the gasket surface - both sides). That should sort it.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards,

T
