Electrics: Headlight moltors

The adjustable beam run by the motors have only been an issue since I replaced the two black adjusters on the headlight, they are holding the headlight rigid so I am having a problem figuring out how the motors can push the headlight up or down, if I had enough hair I would be pulling it out by now

Since fitting two new black adjusters to my headlights for some reason I cannot get the motors to push the lights up or down, both motors are working and are fitted where they should be all slotted in, I have had brilliant help on here trying to sort the problem but I am stuck, any other suggestions would be grateful

The little black adjuster you have fitted is really just a bracket that has some flexibility in it so the reflector can move sufficiently to adjust the beam. I would dismantle both the motor adjuster and the manual side to side adjuster and then test the reflector by hand with just the black bracket fitted. That way you will see the amount of adjustment that is possible. Be gentle with it as the black bracket could easily snap. Once you are satisfied there is flexibility, re-assemble the sideways manual adjuster and test for adjustment, then if OK attach the motor adjuster and test. If there is still a problem with the motor adjuster, you may have to remove the manual adjuster and re-test the motor. It will be a PITA, but given that you cannot see anything amiss, I think the only logical way to find the issue. Hope you sort it without too much hassle.

The movement of the motor is very minimal. Most of the adjustment is made from the manual Allen key socket at the top of the headlight. So what I would suggest, is for you to turn the white Allen key adjuster thingy until the headlights reach the desired height. Then try adjusting them with the motors and you will notice that is is just finely tuning them

Agree with gatos: the motor adjusters are there for fine tuning when carrying a load in the car and the back end sits low and therefore the lights will be high.

The other point to note is that you need to be sure the adjusters are working and roughly adjust the beam to somewhere thereabouts. The final adjustment will need to be done with a beam setter. Your MOT chappie may do it as part of the MOT or you may have to buy him a decent drink for his trouble - it all depends how well you know him. I would mention it when booking the MOT and go from there.

lol. Brilliant idea. I did the same thing when I replaced my headlights to the xenon ones, but they were only temporary markings
