V40 - Clutch and Gear Box failure
Hello,
We have a V40 thats thats nearly 3 years old and last weekend we broke down. When our local Volvo garage looked at the car they said both the clutch and gearbox needed replacing? IS this normal for them both to go at the same time? They said the gearbox is covered under the warranty but we have to pay 300 quid for clutch? Should the clutch have gone on a car that relatively new? we have 40,000 miles so far? I personally think they should cover the cost of both? is this unreasonable? Anna |

Anna it doesn't surprise me you have a newer v40, you have posted in the wrong section. This is for the classic x40

If the gearbox failure has caused the clutch to be damaged, then, i would think that it should also be covered on the warranty ?.
If the clutch is worn to the point where it is advisable to replace it, then it will be down to normal wear & tear, & not covered by the warranty ! The clutch is unlikely to be really worn out at 40K miles, but whilst the gearbox is out, it may be a good idea to have it replaced ? It may be £300 now, but if you wait until it's really worn it may cost considerably more, because the gearbox will need to come out again & you will be charged for the extra time/labour as well ! |

changing the clutch is a very easy job when the 'box is out. Bloody hard when it isnt. £300 seems a bit steep but thats stealer prices. Haggle.
Will cost 300 to replace in a few years time at a local garage. Has your car got a fancy flywheel ? See if you can get dealer to replace that with a new one, without charging you for the part. ££££

Another reason to keep with the classic x40.
