Default Rear Delta Link Bush Replacement

Did the dreaded rear delta-link bushes over the weekend and after much blood, swearing and man-tears they are now replaced and looking nice and shiny and new.

These links were very useful:

I would thoroughly recommend buying the Volvo press tool 999-5497 from Rufe as it will save you untold pain and annoyance. He also priced up the other parts for me too, so thanks Simon.

I made my own puller / pusher in the end as I have easy access to all the bits at work. Here it is:

If you are thinking of fabricating your own, make sure the threaded bar is at least M20 as my puny little M12 bent up like a banana and only just worked. The channel I used to clamp the tool to the trailing arm also bent under the massive force it took to get the bushes out so if you’re going to make a tool, make it a beefy one.

I used a cooking type blow-torch to melt the rubber but bottled doing to too much on the off-side as the fuel lines were a bit too close for comfort. I used a pocket knife to cut the rubber away as I applied pressure with the puller and eventually it popped out leaving almost no residue behind. I reckon if you had the proper tool though you wouldn’t need any heat at all.

Thanks to Alan M for this photo which (along with the Volvo one) I based my puller on:

Hi there, wonderful information. I need to replace the Delta links on my 850, can cannot locate the Volvo tool anywhere. So, like you, I plan to make my own tool. Can you give me the dimensions of the tool and bolts?

It's a 7 year old thread and the op hasn't been active on here for 3 years.
