3.31 axle ! Will swap or buy for 3.54
Looking to drop the revs a tad in my diesel 940. I believe early 960s have a 3.31 axle ? Just wondering if anyone fancies swapsies or if they have one laying around i can buy ?

I assume you have a 3.54:1 and want a 3.31:1 from what you say ?
I would be wary of doing this , it could kill how the car drives, it will certainly feel less powerful, and will not go up hills so easily , volvo chose the filnal drive ratio with careful thought and testing . If you have it the right way around in your header you will get the opposite effect to what you desire!

Then the D5 came out and changed my mind about Diesels altogether , the original D5 is still the best even today . ... but the revs are for a reason ... revs = power you have to make the most of what "little" power there was . I put a higher ratio final drive in a 340 a long time ago and it took all the sparkle off any performance it might have had and made it lifeless . I later fitted a 5 speed box with the original final drive and that did the trick . I would look for an Overdrive box or a 5 speed .

Yes my original post was to fit a 3.31 diff to a standard m46 equipped 940 diesel, now having put 20k motorway miles on the tank i realise that dropping the revs at 70 to less than 2.5k would just drop the engine out of its boost region.. Now on the other hand, said 3.31 diff will be fitted to a m90 equipped, 200hp, VNT powered 940 diesel and i hope PEAK boost will be around 2500rpm . Gonna be good |
