Default Need a classic Volvo specialist in Lancashire

Hello all,
Been putting 350-400 motorway miles over the last few weeks, in my 71 P1800e.

I think it needs a pro tune up as its revving at about 1300rpm.

I am up in Lancashire, near Preston. I would appreciate a contact up here who is familiar with volvos from this era especially the B20E engines please?

Any ideas?

For some basic stuff you could try John at Leyland LPG. Good understaning of older engines and not expensive either

Check the vacuum pipes for air leaks.

Dai,
I called Leyland LPG straight away, the person on the other side said that his step dad who specialised in this kind of work passed away last year and that he does not pursue work with old cars any more.

Can I encourage you to relocate from Gods isle?!

Derek, tube leaks were my first concern, I clamped a couple and the rpm died down, so I replaced the engine breather, top and bottom and the small hose running from near the thermostat to near the throttle flap. No change.

I think I may have to look at the idle settings and the throttle flap seating (I think it has been used to try and set the idle speed before). I just want someone to tune and set everything up to a benchmark for me to start from. I have sent an email to RE Engineering in Bury, apparently they might have skills....

ANY contact would be appreciated people?

I will second Jason's recommendation and have used Brian, what a lovely chap, knows his stuff, super reasonable price wise, and his staff adore him, the young lads working for him volvo enthusiasts too so love our cars coming in. Friend of mine had his clutch done on his P1800 and I have had some suspension work done and a general overall inspection. Had car up on the ramps for me when I picked car up and spent 40 mins answering questions and putting my mind at rest on various things I thought were problems. Brian actually owned a P1800...... and wishes he still did.

Duke Street Garage in Shaw/Oldham Tel 01706 845478
A small Volvo specialist, ask to speak to John Grattan, they also run Rochdale Undersealing should you ever need it, I've used them and recommend them.

John was a good friend of mine and not a lot older than me. Turns out he passed away over christmas. It was not unusual to not hear from him for months on end so I thought nothing of not having had a call from him for a while.

Thank you for the links. St annes is a pleasant drive from me, so might toddle over.

Re the breather pipes:
I got to work today after a lovely 35 mile trip. Engine nice amd warm.

I got out and took turns clamping each breather tube one after the other to detect and rpm changes:

The rpm drops if the breather pipe running from oil filler cap to throttle body is clamped.

The rpm drops if the breather from the engine block near the distributor to throttle body is clamped.

Now these are NEW pipes, no leaks on the pipes and none on where they are attached (proven by clamps on all fittings). WHAT GIVES??!!

Dai, forgive me if my message about John, was abit thoughtless mate. I am sorry.

Regards
Udhi
