Are the seatbelt warning lights on my '97 V70 supposed to work for both front seats as in my 9 series, ALL seats as in a previously owned 240 model or just the drivers seat.
At present it only works for the drivers seat and I can find no information in either the handbook or the Haynes manual. |

No, unlike the older volvos in the v70 it only works for the driver's seat, not the passenger's.
Funny eh! |

Anyone correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is an airbag thing!
If you have a driver and passenger airbag then both the front passengers belt warning lights are active. If there is only a drivers airbag, then just the drivers belt warning is active. Jeff 97, V70 |

You may well be right Jeff!
If the car is on and I haven't got the drivers seatbelt in, then both of the overhead lights flash. Once the drivers seatbelt is in, it makes no difference if anyone is sat in the passenger seat or not, they don't flash. The person who had my T5 before me had a baby so didn't have the passenger air bag fitted. |

That is not a bad point actually.
Say if the lights did work independantly and no passenger was present (if passenger airbag was fitted), would the warning light on the passenger side continue to flash for the duration of the journey. I was under the impression that not wearing a belt with an airbag fitted was more dangerous. Jeff 97 V70 |

No the light for the drivers seat will flash all the time the car is running and the seatbelt is not engaged, whereas the passenger one will only flash if someone is sitting in the seat and they haven't got the seatbelt plugged in (if it flashes at all that is)

Thanks for the info, I only have a drivers airbag so that could explain it.
