Default Latest Ebay SCAM BE WARNED

Mini Cooper S for sale. £5300.00 (ligitate Ebay Advert Lady Owner) Out of interest I made an offer who would not for a 2004 Mini Cooper S with 30K miles and worth in the UK at least £14k. I had a message from sellar (through Ebay) giving me details of the vehicle, as follows.
Vehicle was in Hungary and due to LHD in Hungary she needed to sell. If I was interested it would be purchased through the Ebay protection scheme where the money is held on account by Ebay untill the vehicle is shipped to the UK and delivered after a period of 5 days if the vehicle was all OK Ebay would release the cash to the sellar.
Thinks, like I was told a long time ago if something looks to good to be true it is,nt. I replied by email requesting the Home address in Hungary, Passport Number copy of all vehicle documents. I also sent a copy of the Ebay advert and emails to Ebay. Their reply was that it was a spoof advert. I replied how was this a spoof advert as it was a genuine advert on ebay for all to see. No reply as yet. Needless to say the lesson learned do not even beleive some of the legitate car sales adverts you see.
I also removed any reference to this advert from my pc and did a virus check and other checks fortunately I am all OK.

I too witnessed what I think is a new eBay scam just yesterday. I was looking thro the eBay motors section when I spotted a Honda civic type R that looked good, when I clicked on the ad a screen very similar to the eBay sign-in screen appeared asking me to sign in. I'm lucky that I use eBay a lot so can usually smell a rat quite quickly.

eBay will only ask you to sign in if you make a bid, ask seller a question or wish to save something to your "watch list" in "my eBay" and thats if you're not signed it already..... which I was.

I was unable to report this ad to ebay as I could not get the listing details etc, however on looking again today the ad does seem to have been removed.

Its definatley something that needs to be "looked out for"

I think eBay is a great site but it does get spoilt by a hardcore minority intent on disruption for the vast majority of honest(ish) people!!

If you keep your wits about you you're generally OK. People have attemted to scam me a few times, but luckily I've remained Blag free!

Hi
this is a regular con on ebay.

The ebay protection email you get looks very real and legit, but it isn't. Rather like a chrque scammer, they look very real but they are not.

They usually say 'Contact me on following email....... as their ebay mail is apparrently down at the moment. This then take you away from Ebay. The products are usually high quality items with too good to be true prices. But not normally Buy it Now through ebay. Their Buy it now will be via their email usually hotmail or yahoo etc..

Any way, you have done the right thing. Unfortunately many people out of greed want to believe it and send money.

Oh and alos they normally insist on Western Union as they say Paypal is not working or something.
regards
