Default Another D5 power loss issue!

I have a 2008 V70 with the 185hp D5 engine 120k on the clock. On short local runs it all works very well, lots of power through the rev range with no issues and feels very quick.

Now here's the problem, on a long run, such as my recent trip to Belgium, I sometimes can't get the revs beyond 3000rpm, it feels as though most of the power has gone and flat lines at 3000rpm with nothing more to give. This mostly happens on faster longer runs when everything is well heated up. I've never had any error messages or warning symbols come up. Recently serviced and I get fuel filter changed at each service. I only do low mileage in the vehicle. This has been going on for some time.

There's so many posts on many forums about this same issue with the D5 engine and a hundred different recommendations..........

Can anyone give me a starter for ten? I presume it's going to be a process of elimination and likely a sensor issue as it only happens on fast runs and when engine is hot?

Appreciated.

The smart way to solve the problem is with diagnostics.
There's obviously Dice and Vida but you can also use an ELM327 dongle with the Torque Pro app for less than a tenner and get very good info.

It depends whether you want to spend money on changing parts based on a guess or spend it on the right tools.

I have, however, found the intercooler pipes to be imo very soft, would this explain the loss of power when I excelerate hard on a fast run?
