Rear Pad Wear
During the recent 2 year service of our XC60 it was reported that it needs rear pads which I was a little surprised at considering it's only done 22k.
The more worrying issue is that the offside pads are just about worn out whilst the nearside ones are only about half worn. I have asked for a further investigation and it's going back in soon but was wondering if anyone here has come across a similar issue and any info on the cause. Many thanks. Mike

Weird, I thought the fronts did most of the work in modern cars and were biased that way, but hey ho.
It's only the pads, changing them is a doddle and they take the wheels off to inspect the brakes etc during a service anyway, not a huge cost, just get them changed. Maybe being automatic would make a difference, and maybe electronic park brakes have something to do with it. |

I've just had my xc60 auto seviced @ 21k and the rears were 35% worn against the front @ 25%.
I bought the car @ 11000k so don't know how it was previously driven, I think I'm guite gentle on the brakes.

Mine made it to 36k...22 does sound a little low...could be an overenthusiastic garage looking for work!
Get a second opinion! As mentioned elsewhere, the main dealer in Leicester said I needed pads and discs...my preferred dealer in Hinckley said the discs were fine for another set of pads.

My MY16 D5 has just had its first service and garage has said all the pads need changing after 18000 miles as over 70% worn. Most of my mileage is on hilly country roads but that is poor. I know the new XC90 had a recall for fast wearing pads and I wonder if Volvo are fitting the MY16 XC60 with similar ones. Not happy!

Thanks for all the replies. Very useful.
It seems that, on average, my wear is premature. I have complete faith in the honesty of my dealer and have inspected the pads myself so i know that they are worn out. BTW they do not take the wheels off in the service which is why it going back in this week for further investigation. As i said in my original post it's the extreme uneven wear that concerns me & was looking for anyone else who has had the same issue. I guess all will be revealed & hopefully solved later this week. Cheers. Mike

I am still on the original pads - all round - and I am just short of 40j miles in the car. A perumptory look suggests that there is still a fair bit left, more on the front than rear but more than enough to get to the service in January where I the car will be around the 42k ish mark.
