Default Newbie - Should I buy a V70?

Hi,
I'm currently running an ST24 Mondeo, which I love, but I need an estate car. I've always fancied a Volvo and have seen a few nice (but high mileage) V70's about for reasonable money.

Realistically I'm looking at a 1997 - '99 V70 with 130 - 160,00 miles. I've driven the 2.5 Tdi and thought it was superb but I've seen a rather nice 2.5 SE Auto with a full history.

So:
1. Should 140,000 miles concern me?
2. What fuel economy should I expect from a 2.5 Auto?
3. What issues should I be aware of?

Thanks!

First off, welcome to the forums

1 - Not at all. Assuming the service history is good, and things like the cambelt have all been done at the correct intervals, 140k miles is nothing

2 - 2.5 auto petrol? 30-35mpg on a run. Low 20's around town. Roughly.

3 - As said in number 1, cant think of much so long as the service intervals have been followed. If your going to view, Judge on the overall condition of the car, and not the number on the clock

Default V70 ?

Hi,
I bought my first Volvo last summer, V70 2.4 classic. Am delighted with it.
As James says, as long as it has history, cam belt is done etc then mileage should not be a problem.
I believe the year of car you are looking for has "drive by wire" electronic throttle system which might frighten you if you need to replace it. Check the forum re ETM. It looks like Volvo UK are becoming more positive.
Plenty of forum members with great amounts of knowledge and a friendly bunch.
Am delighted with mine and would not part from it. I will easily have another one.
Good luck with your hunt

Thanks for that James N and yes I did mean 2.5 petrol Auto, sorry. I recently went self-employed and do lots of motorway miles now. Comfort, space and reliability are slightly ahead of fuel economy.
