C70 Suspension Upgrades
I've recently bought a C70 T5 and while I'm really happy with the car there is to much body roll for my taste, so (with my wifes permission!) I'm intending to stiffen it up a bit!!
My questions are: 1/ has anyone fitted stiffer spings and dampers to their cars? Have they improved it? What brand are they? 2/ Has anyone fitted uprated anti-roll (anti-sway in the US), does it help? Do they fit RHD cars alright? 3/ Where do you recommend I get the parts from in the UK? Many Thanks! |

RE: C70 Suspension Upgrades
C70s were available new with a choice of suspension options:
1. Comfort (Softest) 2. Dynamic 3. Lowered Dynamic 4. Sport 5. Lowered Sport (Hardest) (although not every option was available on every model). T5 coupes came with 'Sport' as standard with 'Lowered Sport' and 'Dynamic' as no-cost options. Do you know what option you currently have? You may be able to upgrade to one of the harder settings using Volvo parts. Scott |

RE: C70 Suspension Upgrades
Thanks for the information... I've been on to a couple of Volvo dealers trying to find out what set-up is on my car, but they can't tell me :(
The only suggestion was that since there was no suspension option listed for my car it was the standard i.e. Sport. Any idea how I could find out for sure?? Thanks in advance |

RE: C70 Suspension Upgrades
Given the car's registration, any Volvo dealer should be able to identify exactly what options were originally fitted to you car, so if two have said that no suspension options are listed then you probably do have the standard Sport setup. I guess you could always ask the supplying dealer who may still have the original order.

RE: C70 Suspension Upgrades
If you don't get much joy from the dealers, who will in any case probably charge very large sums (even with club discount) try Kalmar Union or TME for handling packages; they do know their Volvos and very often will outperform dealers in price terms too.
Despite the lack of the archives (groan) the Performance forum will also provide much information and when you post, lively debate on the subject of properly-riding C70s - US sites are also good especially Swedespeed, where a member (Kai) has a very nice C70 with everything on it except chocolate sauce! |

RE: C70 Suspension Upgrades
Thanks for the help guys!
I've spoken to TME and Kalmar Union, who where quite helpful. The conclusion I'm coming to is that there isn't an aftermarket upgraded anti roll bar available - there was at one time but it was withdraw 'cos it broke the brackets under the car due the the extra loading :( So the only options seems to be: 1/ go for the full monty 1k solution from Kalmar Union, which although seems an excellent job is quite expensive (!) 2/ Press the dealers again to see if the T5R etc has a stiffer anti roll bar that would fit the C70 3/ Just go for a stiffer set of aftermarket springs Right now I guess it's #3.. |
