If you can rebuild the engine and transmission, why not. The cylinders get little wear and can be rebored if needed, mostly the pistons, bearings and top end take the wear. As for his engine, it was rebuilt at least two times, the transmission as well.

The starter motor surely never wore out because that car was never shut down.

Yet again....the way to see high mile totals is to pile them on...like a taxi.
How low the $/mile figure must be.

If you can get the reg number you can look back at several years mot history and see all the failures and advisories, I would be interested as well.
Maybe my XC70 at 230k is just run in then?

Not sure why.
Lot less to go wrong in a normally aspirated petrol engine - no turbo, injectors have a more gentle life, lower torque in transmission etc.
Bores and bearings will wear to the same degree so aside from fuel costs I'd prefer to keep a petrol for high mileage
