Smile Control Arms, Shocks, Tie Rods

2001 XC70 Cross Country 195,000kms
I have been hearing a lot of noises coming from my front suspension. 2 years ago, I replaced the upper strut mounts and that helped a lot. But lately, more rattles are heard.
One suspension "expert" claimed my right front outer tie rod was shot, so I ordered both inner and outer left and right tie rods from IPD. Replaced the outers on both sides and that helped some.
But still there are rattles and rumbles.
Today. another suspension "expert" showed me the worn bushings on the control arms and also suggested new shocks all around.
My question is, which of the control arms on this page ( https://www.ipdusa.com/prodtype.asp?...rumbs=987,1058 )should I order? Any reason not to go with the cheap ones? What other parts might I need? Should I get ball joints, or bolts?

Or would I be better off just ordering this ( https://www.ipdusa.com/products/1133...on-kit-p2-xc70 )

Regarding the shocks, are these the correct ones? ( https://www.ipdusa.com/prodtype.asp?...rumbs=987,1058 ) and again, should I be ordering extra bits for installation.

Any advice appreciated

so you bought inner and outer tie rods but only replaced the outers??????

why not polybush your original lower front arms.

your car will have nivomat shocks which are roughly £450 each on the rear, i dont know about the fronts

Absolutely forget about all control arms but Lemforder, or you will be replacing them after 1-2 years again (even earlier).

Don't replace the original ball joints for nothing. These are quite durable and replacement are very expensive unless you put a cheap one that will last again 1-2 years.

You will surely also have to replace the spring seat - only Sachs, there are not expensive.

As for the suspension, this is the part that gives the car the ride feeling. Forget about any brand but the Sachs blue sticker stamped Super Touring. You can get the Sachs white sticker but your will regret it, the car will drive like an old Chevrolet. There is also Bilstein but the ride will be noticeable harsher.

XC70 has loger strut shafts for higher ride - the red label Sachs.
Since the ball joints are attached to the knuckle, you might also find it cheaper to replace the bushings on control arms, depending how much garage labour costs in your area.

Front suspension on Volvo's are very soft unfortunately. This means the drop links and front arm bushes fail very quickly. How ever they are not to difficult to replace. Check my article out on my blog about it http://www.volvov70blog.wordpress.co...spensionissues. My blog post explains more.

I ordered the ipd control arm kit. Should I be concerned?

Also, are these the correct struts? (again from the ipd website)

Have a look and search also on the US Volvo forums; I.e Swedespeed and Volvoxc.com as they are big users of IPD products over there and have lots of views and opinions on their kit. We don't see much IPD stuff fitted in the UK - unless I get corrected here?
