Default Should there be oil in this pipe?

Hey guys

I have little knowledge of car mechanics, so excuse what may seem a silly question. Should there be oil traces found in the circled pipe below? There is a small amount slowly seeping from the join. The join can be pulled apart easily.

What does the pipe do? The other end of the pipe (not shown in the picture found online below) has an electronic connector/sensor attached to it.

The engine is a D3 136bhp, will try to post up a picture of actual engine.

yes oily breather fumes , find a suitable narrow ( 7mm ) hose clip and gently tighten it , should solve the problem ..

Hey Clan. Thanks for your help, here's some more pictures of the actual engine. Note it runs down onto the wires and components below too.

Do you mean apply the hose clip to the left of the join in the pictures?

exactly yes , to the left of the electric heater part . it heats the crankcase fumes to keep the oil in vapour form . There will always be a stain there as it is a plastic to plastic joint , but a hose clip helps a great deal .

The picture on the right appears to be of the base of the lubricating oil filter. If it was the other way up it would be called the filter head. There appears to be some kind of electrical sensor embedded in it. Could be for a filter by-pass warning light.

However, I'm not familiar with Volvo car engines and I could be quite wrong.
