Ran out of Fuel today...

Today, we were heading up to Turnberry in 'SUNNY Scotland' seriously it is sunny and yet we are soaking in the South!
I knew I needed fuel within 30 miles, I was on the A1 south of Newcastle, I decided to come off at next junction for fuel....it all of a sudden showed no fuel and as we went up the slip road it lost power!!!
I eventually managed to start her and got onto a bypass...I had 3 cut outs and literally rolled into a lay by with a trans con up my back side from eastern europe...
There was a burger van, so I asked where the petrol station was? and he then proceeded to take me about 5 miles to a station and back and when I offered him some money for his trouble, he refused several times and said " there aren't many of us left" jesus what a decent gentleman...very rare guy, I owe him one.

Quick question...I ran her bone dry and it took some starting after putting a can of diesel in her...carried on to Scotland after tanking her, and she appeared ok, any ill effect when you run them dry that I should know about???

The user manual has a little section on this exact situation:

Empty tank and diesel engine

It doesn't talk about any ill effects, but suggests that you follow a little procedure to allow the car to perform a check. Details at the above link

Did not do this procedure...hopefully no air pockets in the system...thanks for the info
