Default Air Con

Hello, We have a 1997 V70 2.5 and with the weather we've been having i would like to fix the air con, so i was wondering if anyone might know when Volvo changed from R12 to R134a refrigerant. Thanks, Ian.

When you say "fix the air con" do you mean to re gas it yourself in the hope that it works ?
If that's your plan then maybe a visit to Kwikfit might be a good idea. They charge £49.......empty the system, check for leaks etc. Then refill....now if it still don't work there is no charge, likewise if they find a leak....no charge, as they can't fix a leak so then you need a specialist to sort it for you.
If the do refill and it works but only for a few weeks then they will do it again for free.........if it goes again they will refund you, so all in all I think its a no brainer...take it there....my opinion only.

And they will use the correct refrigerant.

All the V70s had the R134a in them.
Word of warning about some the big outlets being a hit or miss.
I got a V50 in recently, owner had been told his compressor was shot.
So owner brought in for a second opinion, turns out they had put almost double the amount of gas in the system it should have had and therefore was doing very little.
After leak checking then putting in the correct amount it was ice cold.
Sometimes worth getting a garage that does a bit more involved work with A/C

I suppose it may depend on the ability of the employee doing it......never had any problems with my local branch.
